contract furniture - Kollektion.58 Karl Schwanzer

Homage to the 1950s

With a wooden chair, an armchair and the corresponding side table, the “Kollektion.58” includes furniture arising from original drafts of the Austrian architect and furniture designer Karl Schwanzer. The collection is completed by typical 1950s style conference furniture consisting of swivel chair, table and sideboard. Tapered lines and contours characterize these design classics. Karl Schwanzer, architect of the Austrian Pavilion for the World Exhibition 1958 in Brussels, better known as “21er Haus”, designed the prominent armchair especially for the “21er Haus”.

Description

contract furniture - Kollektion.58 Karl Schwanzer
  • Tapered lines and contours provide the characteristic heart of these design classics. The solid table top is tapered on the narrow sides – on the conference table exactly where sturdy chrome frames penetrate the wood and run in a straight line through the table and beyond.

  • In the occasional table, the upside-down U-shaped chrome frame elements appear only to caress the lower-set wooden top with rectangular shelf at the point where it tapers. The table’s surface is finished with a square glass plate that creates transparency for the classy lower level.

  • In the armchair and “Conferencing Chair”, the angular, cone-shaped back and seat upholstery meet at the short slanting sides.

  • Mirroring the conference table, a polished chrome curved element connecting the armrests runs through the front of the backrest upholstery. The wood used for the tables is encountered in the armrests of both chairs.

  • The armchair is designed with four legs in the classic style, with the chrome frame cascading from the armrests into the feet.

  • The conference chair stands on swivelling polished chrome column that splays out into a cross-shaped base.
